People forced to file nomination forms in Kupwara: Sehrai

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai today alleged that the people in Kupwara were forced to file nomination papers to participate in the ‘sham’ Panchayat elections.

“People have been forced to file nomination forms in Kupwara to participate in Panchayat elections and it clearly indicates that such elections are going to be held on the barrel of gun,” Sehrai said in a statement today, said.

“New Delhi follows its egoistic policy and runs its writ through the barrel of gun and its military might. However, it has neither worked in past nor it will deliver any good in future. Instead of holding such waste exercise New Delhi should address the Kashmir issue and resolve it as per the aspirations of people of Kashmir who have been promised by the world community,” Sehrai said.

Meanwhile, Sehrai has lashed out at the authorities for slapping another Public Safety Act (PSA) on Muhammad Amin Ahengar of Shopian and Abdul Ahad Teli of Gund Kohru, Langate, and their shifting to Hira Nagar Jail and Kote Bhalwal Jail respectively.

He has also strongly condemned the forces’ raids on the houses of TeH district presidents Shakeel Ahmed Itoo of Shopian and Mufti Abdul Ahad of Baramulla. “During the raid on the residence of Mufti Abdul Ahad the forces stole some jewelry and cash belonging to his wife,” Sehrai alleged.
