PHC Kaimoh faces space crunch, patients suffer

The Primary Health Centre (PHC) of Kaimoh village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district is facing space crunch for decades.

In 2011, the government took up the construction of the new PHC building but it is yet to be completed.

As a result of this, the hospital continues to function from an old one-storey building, resulting in overcrowding inside the hospital.

The hospital is devoid of a proper building having a single storey building with multiple departments in it.

The space crunch gives a tough time to the patients as well as the attendants.

The residents have urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest.

“The hospital lacks proper space and is always over-crowded with multiple patients sharing a single bed,” said Gulzar Ahmad, a local.

“Few days back, the building used as the Out Patient Department was gutted. Now the OPD section too operates from this small building, creating a mess inside the hospital,” he said.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Block Medical Officer (BMO), Kaimoh, Dr Abdul GaniPoswal said, “The work on the project got after some people did not allow the construction at the site.

The final deadline of the project is December 2021. We will ensure that the construction is completed by then.”
