Police arrests five in south Kashmir with material used for ‘making IEDs’

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested five people and recovered material used for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from Zainapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday night.

A special team of police in separate raids arrested the fivepersons and recovered material used for making the explosive devices includingIEDs, GNS reported.

   

The arrestees were identified as Aqib Nazir Rather son of NazirAhmad Rather of Awneera Shopian, Amir Nazir Wani son of Nazir Ahmad of DurporaShopian, Sameer Mushtaq Bhat son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Shirmal Shopian,Faisal Farooq Ahanger son of Farooq Ahmad Ahanger of Moolu Chitragam, Shopianand Rayees Ahmad Ganie son of Mohd Ayoub of Dangerpora Shopian.

Police has said that they were planning to target securityforces by planting explosives during their movement in the area.

“Besides material, on the disclosure of these arrestedassociates of militants, a sophisticated IED was also recovered from theirpossession thus a major tragedy was averted in the southern district,” theofficer said.

The officer said that a case under FIR number 39/2019 under section 16,18, 38, 39 Unlawful Activities (Prevention Act) has been registered and further investigations taken up.

Basedon specific input, Shopian police arrested five associates of militantsidentified as: Aqib Nazir Rathar son of Nazir Ahmed Rathar resident of Awneera,Amir Majeed Wani son of Abdul Majeed Wani resident of Durpura, Sameer AhmedBhat son of Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat resident of Shirmal, Faisal Farooq Ahanger sonof Farooq Ahmed Ahanger resident of Molu Chitragam and Rayees Ahmed Ganai sonof Mohd Ayuob Ganai resident of Molu Dangarpura.

“Duringquestioning, it was revealed that militants of proscribed outfit HM, along withabove stated associates were planning to target police and security forces byplanting an IED in the area,” said a spokesman.

Ontheir disclosure, a sophisticated IED was recovered from their possession andmajor attempt which they had planned was foiled, he said.

Inthis regard, a case FIR NO 39/2019 was registered at Police Station Zainaporaand further investigation is in progress.
