Security forces on Friday detained two motorcycle-borne students after they tried to flee a security checkpoint in Anantnag town of southern Kashmir.
A source said a joint party of SOG and CRPF signaled a motorcyclist to stop near General Post Office in Sadiq Abad, on Khanabal-Pahalgam Road.
The motorcyclist however turned back and tried to flee the spot. The contingent of forces on duty fired few aerial shots which created panic in the area, the source said, adding in the process, the pillion rider fell off from the motorcycle and was later apprehended by the forces.
The motorcyclist, however, managed to escape from the site, the source said.
“The boy (pillion rider) identified as Obaid of Nowshera Bijbehara, a student, was taken to JIC Anantnag for questioning. As he was being interrogated his friend, Manzoor Ahmad Kumar of Kotsoo Pahalgam, also a student, who had fled the spot, presented himself before the police,” a police official said.
He said that investigation was underway to ascertain the details. “We are investigating if the motorcyclist tried to flee for fear of not possessing driving license,” the police officer said.
The family, members of two teenagers, said that their sons were innocent. “Both of them are students and had left home for school this morning. They must have panicked after seeing the check post set up by the security forces,” said the family members.
