Police detain 2 bikers for questioning

Security forces on Friday detained two motorcycle-borne students after they tried to flee a security checkpoint in Anantnag town of southern Kashmir.

A source said a joint party of SOG and CRPF signaled amotorcyclist to stop near General Post Office in Sadiq Abad, on Khanabal-PahalgamRoad.

   

The motorcyclist however turned back and tried to flee thespot. The contingent of forces on duty fired few aerial shots which createdpanic in the area, the source said, adding in the process, the pillion riderfell off from the motorcycle and was later apprehended by the forces.

The motorcyclist, however, managed to escape from the site,the source said.

“The boy (pillion rider) identified as Obaid of NowsheraBijbehara, a student, was taken to JIC Anantnag for questioning. As he wasbeing interrogated his friend, Manzoor Ahmad Kumar of Kotsoo Pahalgam, also astudent, who had fled the spot, presented himself before the police,” a policeofficial said.

He said that investigation was underway to ascertain thedetails. “We are investigating if the motorcyclist tried to flee for fear ofnot possessing driving license,” the police officer said.

The family, members of two teenagers, said that their sonswere innocent. “Both of them are students and had left home for school thismorning. They must have panicked after seeing the check post set up by thesecurity forces,” said the family members.
