Police foil abduction bid, accused arrested

Police on Wednesday foiled an abduction bid and rescued a minor girl from this district. The abductor, a driver, was arrested while the girl was handed over to her family.

A police official identified the accused as Irshad Ahmad Hajam of Putkha village of Sopore. He said a case (FIR No 126 of 2020) has been registered at police station Baramulla.

   

The official said the girl had this afternoon boarded a Scorpio vehicle on Baramulla-Srinagar highway. The girl was heading to her relatives house. The vehicle as per the girl’s statement was alone inside and being a taxi, she boarded the vehicle without any hesitation, said the official.

“As the girl reached to her destination, the driver did not stop and proceed forward. Despite girls repeated request to stop the vehicle, the driver fled away with an apparent intention to abduct the girl. Sensing trouble, the girl start crying which attracted the attention of people on road who immediately called police,” said Gulzar Ahmad, DSP headquarters.

He said following the information, a police party chased the vehicle which was stopped at Chinad village in Sopore. “Though he fled from the spot, he was later arrested by the police while as the girl was handed over to her family,” said the official.
