Police foil weapon snatching attempt at Pampore

Police Thursday foiled an attempt by unknown persons to snatch a weapon from security personnel on duty at a branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Pampore.

A police officer said that two unidentified persons wearingKashmiri Pheran attempted to assault a policeman with an axe with an intentionto snatch his weapon.

   

However, the assault was countered by other policemen onduty, he said.

The attackers managed to escape from the scene.A team ofpolice later reached the spot and started investigations into the incident.

“A case has been registered in this incident andinvestigations have been started,” an official said, adding police wereaccessing CCTV footage from the bank to identify the attackers.

Meanwhile, security forces launched cordon and searchoperation at Shariefabad and Eidgah areas of Tral in the police districtAwantipora.

A police official while confirming the CASO said it waslaunched after “specific inputs” were received about presence of militants inthese areas.

Security forces personnel comprising Jammu & KashmirPolice, Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)cordoned off the areas to conduct searches.

The search was called off when no contact with any militantwas established.
