Police take cognisance of ‘fraud’ in MBBS selection list under SAARC

A meritorious aspirant has alleged students from Kashmir valley with lesser merit were fraudulently given admission in Bangladesh under South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) quota for MBBS course.

Faheem Rashid, who scored 491 marks out of 500 in 2017 annual class 12th exams and topped in Biology, has questioned the genuineness of the selection list.

“I had pinned hopes for my selection in any of the government medical colleges in SAARC countries, particularly Bangladesh. The selection is done on basis of merit and I was the topper in my batch and secured 99 marks in Biology which was the highest in my batch,” Faheem said.

He was however shocked to see the SAARC merit list in which students from Kashmir with less merit than him were selected for admission in MBBS course.

Faheem made the allegation after obtaining names and details along with the marks card copy of the selected students from JKBOSE website.

Fifteen students from Kashmir valley figure in the SAARC merit list for admission in MBBS.

“What is more shocking is that eight students from my batch feature in the merit list despite scoring lower marks than me in class 12th exams. They were not even in the top 10 or 15 in the merit list of class 12th exams,” Faheem said, referring to the marks cards of the students selected for MBBS in SAARC countries.

The dejected candidate demanded justice and action against the consultants involved in the “fraud”.

“Government should take up the matter with Bangladesh Embassy. Students selected for MBBS admission have produced fake or morphed certificates through their consultants due to which deserving lot has been left out,” he said.

Applicable rules say a student with 95 percent or more in class 12th exams is eligible for admission in SAARC countries.

“The SAARC list is compiled on the basis of merit, then how am I, the topper of the entire 2017 batch, excluded? And how the students scoring as low 424 marks have been selected?” Faheem asked, appealing the other meritorious candidates to join him for fighting the fraud.

“The candidates who scored high marks and were in the merit list of top 10 or 15 position holders of the state and had applied for admission under the SAARC quota but don’t figure in the selection list should join me and fight for our justice.”

President, Kashmir career counseling association (KCCA), Ayaz Ali said there has been a fraud in the selection and the matter has been taken up with Bangladesh embassy in New Delhi.

“The students who have managed admission under SAARC have managed to tamper their marks cards. We demand that the consultant who resorted to this fraud should be put to task and dejected candidate should be provided justice,” Ali said, blaming consultants from outside the state who visit Kashmir during admission season and set up offices in hotel rooms to lure students.

The association appealed the state administration to look into the issue and take action.

Senior superintendent of Police (SSP) Crime, Javaid Koul said they have taken cognisance of the case.

“Some students and parents approached us with four marks cards which they claimed are fake. We have forwarded the case to IGP crime for approval,” Koul said.
