Police vehicle used to distribute food packets in BJP’s Anantnag rally; probe ordered

A vehicle of Jammu and Kashmir Police was on Saturday used to distribute food among the supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a poll rally in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, prompting the police to initiate a probe.

Images and videos of the rally showed the workers swarming apolice vehicle (bearing registration number JK02BA 4558) to receive foodpackets.

   

The white-colour gypsy was parked at the venue of the rallyin Khanabal which was addressed by the BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav.

“Today, a video surfaced on social media where in one policevehicle is being seen being utilised for distribution of food items in apolitical party rally in Anantnag. The vehicle in question was deployed for ferryingescort personnel of a protected person,” said a police spokesman.

He said the vehicle has been withdrawn from said protected person and driver of the vehicle has been attached. “Enquiry into the matter has been ordered under rules,” he said.
