Poor drainage clogs Kupwara bus stand

They added that even light showers or mild snowing turn the bus stand and the adjacent market into a pond of muddy water.

Stating that the bus stand here in the town turns into a cesspool of filthy water due to lack of proper drainage system, the residents Sunday alleged that authorities were showing apathy towards the public issues in this North Kashmir town.

“Sewage water blended with mud runs into the bus stand, making walking or riding a two-wheeler an unpleasant experience,” the residents complained, accusing Kupwara Municipal Committee of keeping the bus stand in that state.

They added that even light showers or mild snowing turn the bus stand and the adjacent market into a pond of muddy water.

“When it rains, the condition of the bus stand worsens. Water gets clogged on every side due to lack of drainage,” said Ghulam Muhammad, a local shopkeeper.

Pedestrians generally avoid passing through the bus yard, preferring to take old bridge. The locals have appealed to the higher authorities to look into the matter and redress the urgent public grievance.
