Prof Mehraj ud Din chairs IDBS, DIC meetings

The first meetings of the Interdisciplinary Board of Studies (IDBS) and 1st Steering Committee of the Design and Innovation Centre (DIC) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) were held at green campus here on Tuesday.

A CUK spokesman said that meetings were chaired by thevarsity Vice-Chancellor  Prof Mehraj udDin Mir. The Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, Prof Ashok Aima, theVice-Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Prof. ProfessorJaved Musarrat, Registrar and Director DIC, Prof Fayaz A Nikka, Controller ofExaminations, Prof Parveen Pandit, Project Advisor, Prof N A Nadeem, seniorfaculty members, experts, heads and representatives of different fields alsoattended these meetings.

   

Addressing participants, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir said, “CUKhas the distinction of bagging the DIC project and has started diplomaprogrammes in Kashmir craft designing, herbal medicine and aroma technology,food production and processing, design and dressmaking. The objectives of DICare to promote idea of innovation and preserve the cultural heritage of thestate. The project also aims to facilitate interdisciplinary education,research and entrepreneurial activities in order to create commercialopportunities and building partnership between academia and industry.” 

Project Advisor, Prof. N A Nadeem Prof. N A Nadeem, gave adetailed presentation on the occasion highlighting the functioning of DIC andits future programmes.

The dignitaries from other universities, who attended themeetings   complimented CUK for gettingthe DIC project and said that full emphasis should be made on field training ofthe students.

Former Director General Tourism, and Chairman INTACH, SaleemBegh, also hailed the varsity for receiving the project. He asked the varsityto identify and revive the traditional system of medicines in Kashmir.
