Protestors demand closure of unauthorized brick kilns

Scores of local residents at Budgam Saturday staged protest demonstration at Press Enclave here, demanding closure of unauthorized brick kilns in the district.

Protestors urged authorities to implement directions alreadyissued by higher ups in this regard.

   

“Due to unabated existence of unauthorized brick kilns inthe district, the food grain production has reduced considerably and health ofpeople has adversely been affected,” said Javaid Beigh, who led this protest.

“Toxic gases are emitted by chimneys used at kilns. Nomeasures have been taken to safeguard the agriculture and health of the peoplein the district. Roads and villages are full of dust,” he added.

Beigh also distributed official communications copies amongmedia persons, wherein the district administration has directed concernedofficials to act against illegal kilns.

“We have been running from pillar to post to get theseorders and directions implemented. However, our pleas have fallen on deaf earsas concerned authorities are not serious about implementing these orders,” hesaid.
