Scores of local residents at Budgam Saturday staged protest demonstration at Press Enclave here, demanding closure of unauthorized brick kilns in the district.
Protestors urged authorities to implement directions already issued by higher ups in this regard.
“Due to unabated existence of unauthorized brick kilns in the district, the food grain production has reduced considerably and health of people has adversely been affected,” said Javaid Beigh, who led this protest.
“Toxic gases are emitted by chimneys used at kilns. No measures have been taken to safeguard the agriculture and health of the people in the district. Roads and villages are full of dust,” he added.
Beigh also distributed official communications copies among media persons, wherein the district administration has directed concerned officials to act against illegal kilns.
“We have been running from pillar to post to get these orders and directions implemented. However, our pleas have fallen on deaf ears as concerned authorities are not serious about implementing these orders,” he said.
