Protests broke out amid a spontaneous shutdown in south Kashmir’s Anantnag town on Saturday against the attacks on Kashmiris putting up in Jammu and outside the state.
Shopkeepers in Lal Chowk and other old town areas downed their shutters to protest the attacks.
However, routine business continued in KP road area of the town.
In Lal Chowk, the protesters later clashed with the government forces. They pelted stones on the forces’ personnel who retaliated by lobbing tear shells.
Locals alleged that the CRPF men went berserk and beat up the pedestrians and also damaged several vehicles.

Widespread violence was witnessed in Jammu city on Friday during the bandh called by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Bar Association against the Thursday’s militant attack in Kashmir.
Around 16 people received injuries while more than 30 vehicles belonging to a particular community were reduced to ashes and over 50 more damaged.
Even though the district magistrate imposed curfew at around 2:30 p.m, the police and paramilitary troops were unable to curb the violence at multiple locations including Gujjar Nagar, Shahidi Chowk, Janipur, Purani Mandi, Pacca Danga, Rehari, Residency Road, New Plot, Gummat, Prem Nagar and Narwal.
