Protests in Tral against detention of youths

Protests erupted in south Kashmir’s Tral on Thursday after more than a dozen youth were detained by government forces in various areas.

The families and relatives of detained youths assembled atBus Stand and marched towards the main market. The protesters were demandingimmediate release of their sons.

   

“During last one month 20 youths were detained by the forcesin Tral. We are worried as so far there is no information about them,” said awoman protester.

Police fired tear gas shells on the protesters, the latterpelted stones on the police vehicles.

When contacted, a police officer denied the detention ofyouth.

Defence spokesman Rajesh Kalia said, “We will check aboutthe matter.”
