Three militants were killed on Saturday in a gunfight with the security forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, army said.
An army spokesman said that the gunfight has ended with the killing of three militants.
“Op Panzgom (Pulwama). One more militant killed. Total three militants eliminated. Weapons and warlike stores recovered. Operation over,” he said.
Earlier, police said the security forces started a cordon and search operation during night in Panzgam village after receiving information about the presence of militants there.
The hiding militants were challenged after which they opened fire at the security forces, triggering an encounter.
Reports said one of the slain militants has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar, a resident of Panzgam village. He belonged to the Hizb ul Mujahideen (HM) outfit. However, there has been no official confirmation so far.
