Rape accused held in Ganderbal

Police has arrested a man in Ganderbal accused of raping a girl on Wednesday evening outside the SKUAST hostel. 

The victim girl working as maid at the home of a University professor had gone out of the house, when she was allegedly forcibly taken by the accused to a nearby field and “sexually assaulted her”. 

   

Police identified the accused as Nazir Ahmed Gojri.

A source said Gojri, a resident of Shuhama Ganderbal, was arrested by the police after a non-local girl alleged that the accused raped her on late Wednesday evening outside the hostel.

A source in the faculty hostel said she was rescued by the people living in the hostel who heard her cries and rushed to save her. The girl later approached the police and lodged a complaint against the accused.

Senior superintendent of police Ganderbal Mohammad Khalil Poswal told Greater Kashmir that they have arrested the accused and have started investigations.

He said the girl has alleged that the accused has sexually exploited her and committed rape on her.

On her complaint, the police registered a case of rape and arrested the man who is a resident of Shuhama village in Ganderbal. SSP said that the medical examination of the victim has been done and its final report is awaited.
