People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader Mohammad Sartaj Madni on Tuesday strongly suggested that in rape cases the minor perpetrators should be given no relaxation in punishment.
Madni in a statement said that Bandipora incident, where a three-year old girl was allegedly raped, has shocked the entire nation and such gruesome incident presses for introspection.
He demanded that a law should be enacted in J&K which provides stern punishment even if the perpetrator is a minor.
He demanded that the investigation in the Bandipora case should be expedited.
Last week, a three year old girl in Bandipora district was allegedly raped by her neighbour, who was later arrested by the police.
Police has constituted a SIT to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, PDP senior leader and former legislator Noor Mohammad Sheikh Tuesday appealed to people to maintain calm and not to fall prey to the “nefarious designs of the divisive elements”.
Terming the Bandipora incident as most brutal and inhuman act, he demanded exemplary punishment to the culprit.
