‘Regional parties up for a challenge if BJP again comes to power’

With all eyes on election results at national level, pro-dialogue and pro-autonomy leadership in Kashmir is up for a challenge if election again throws up BJP-led NDA government at the centre, PDP leader Nizamuddin Bhat said today.

In a statement issued here, Bhat said it will be interestingto watch how different regional parties conduct themselves against committedBJP to review and abrogate constitutional provisions guaranteeing the specialstatus to J&K. Bhat said divided as they are, they may find itdifficult to assert and or pre-empt any erosions and onslaught. “So farall of them have miserably failed to make a common cause and stall anyordinances or amendments impacting special provisions. Divided as they remainthey will find themselves further disarrayed.” Bhat said local results inany situation will have no meaning as far as strengthening pro-Kashmirdiscourse is concerned. He said one hopes that the protagonists here build astrong idiom that will instil confidence in the people who seem to be dismayedand suffer from a crisis of faith.
