Renzu promises handicrafts artisans of highlighting their ‘miserable plight’

Various handicrafts artisans from Shahar-e-Khas Thursday called on the Chairman of Kashmir Society International (KSI) Farooq Renzu at his Srinagar office and highlighted their miserable plight.

A statement of KSI issued here said that these artisans brought to the notice of Renzu how much they had suffered during the past four to five decades due to the government apathy.

The statement said that they told Renzu that since times immemorial Kashmir art including wood carving, carpet weaving, Shawl making, Namda and Gaba making, Sozni works, copper works, and other such creative arts reflected the Kashmiri civilization of thousands of years.

It said that the artisans informed Renzu how the “Amritsar shawls” were promoted by the previous governments to hit the business of the Kashmiri artisans.

The statement said that Renzu assured the delegation that he would highlight their misery with the present administration.
