The residents also visited DFO office Bandipora and apprised the higher ups of the matter where they were assured of action against those involved in illegal encroachments.
The residents here took to streets against the forest officials, alleging that they (officials) were involved in shaving off forest area and selling the retrieved land to influential people in the area.
They demanded action against the forest guards who, according to them, were involved in the ‘illegal cutting of trees and selling the land to influential people and earning money both ways.’
The residents also visited DFO office Bandipora and apprised the higher ups of the matter where they were assured of action against those involved in illegal encroachments in the compartment No. 2C in Kaniyaree area.
"The officials of forest department in the area are directly involved in the illegal encroachments as they receive monetary benefits from influential persons who in return give them leniency for illegal cutting of trees and boosts their courage to encroach upon forest land in the village," local resident Abdul Rasheed Khosa said. District Forest Officer (DFO) Bandipora, Muhammad Iqbal told Greater Kashmir that they will take measures to remove encroachments in the village.
“During floods most of the people in the village moved to safer places for temporary period but they have stayed more than stipulated time nearby forests and have been given time frame to remove their illegal sheds. We will definitely take immediate measures in this regard and involved officials will be taken to task," he said.
