Civilian traffic restriction on Baramulla-Srinagar highway limited to Sundays only: Officials

The restriction on civilian movement between Srinagar and Baramullaon NH-44 would now be limited only to Sundays with effect from tomorrow, said agovernment spokesman.

“There would be no prohibition on civilian traffic on Wednesday(between Srinagar and Baramulla),” he said.

   

However, the restrictions would continue between Srinagar andUdhampur on NH-44 as earlier. “These (restrictions) would be reviewedperiodically and relaxation would be made as the need for restriction reduces,”said the spokesman.

“Even on the days of restrictions, i.e. Sunday and Wednesday betweenSrinagar and Udhampur and on Sunday between Baramulla and Srinagar, the localadministration would continue to facilitate movement of civilian traffic as hasbeen happening in the last two weeks.”

Further, the local administration and police would examine thepossibility of allowing public transport of JKSRTC to move during the period ofrestriction on the NH even on convoy days.

“A complete review of restrictions on the Highway would be done afterthe last phase of elections on 06-05-2019 to examine the need for continuingwith them,” he said.
