Ring road affected farmers urge Governor to issue ordinance for land compensation

Farmers affected due to government acquiring land for Ring road have appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to issue an ordinance enabling the affected farmers to get fair compensation for their land which is being acquired for construction of the new highway.

In a statement Land Owners Welfare Committee which met at Budgam on Wednesday said, ” Govt of India pays fair compensation to affected farmers in  states outside J&K  under Right to Fair Compensation & Transparency  under Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act (RFCTLARR Act 2013). As the said law is not applicable in J&K , it is duty of our government to treat us at par with the other states.”

“National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) should bear in mind that land acquired   in J&K particularly in Kashmir is much fertile than states like MP , Rajasthan , Bihar. Our agriculture land holding is also much less than other states and in such scenario it is moral duty of the Governor’s administration to pass an ordinance so that we have a new land acquisition law in J&K,” said Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat chairman RTI Movement.

It is in place to mention here that farmers have held several protests across Kashmir to seek fair compensation for the land to be acquired by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
