RTI Movement delegation calls on Advisor Ganai

A delegation of Jammu Kashmir RTI Movement led by its chairman Dr Raja MuzaffarBhat and trustee Syed Nasarullah apprised Governor’s Advisor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai on Sunday about “huge pendency” of RTI appeals and complaints in the State Information Commission (SIC).

The delegation urged the Advisor to appoint ChiefInformation Commissioner (CIC) and one more Commissioner to the SIC at theearliest, a statement here said.

   

The delegation also raised the issues of RTI awareness and non-implementationof section 4 of JK RTI Act 2009 relating to voluntary disclosure of informationand digitization of official record in government offices.

“The Advisor assured us in the meeting that matter would beput before State Administrative Council (SAC) soon.

He also assured that the RTI awareness programmes would beheld in all the degree colleges of J&K in the coming months in a phasedmanner so that people especially the youth are made aware about this great law,the statement said.

Pertinently J&K High Court in December last disposed ofa PIL filed by J&K RTI Movement seeking indulgence of High Court for RTIawareness and digitization of government records.
