Schools to face music for selling textbooks, uniforms in campuses

Government has warned the private educational institutions of de-recognition in case they sell the textbooks and uniform from their campuses or compel the students to purchase such things from chosen shopkeepers.

In this regard a circular was issued by the director school education Kashmir (DSEK) G N Itoo on Thursday.

“It has come to the notice of this directorate that some private recognized schools are indulging in selling books and uniforms and even force parents to purchase books from some specific private shops,” reads the DSEK circular.

The DSEK circular has banned the booksellers from selling textbooks and other stationery item “with labeled or stamped price” in the market.

“Any deviation from these instructions, if noticed, shall be viewed seriously and action will be taken as per the provisions of the law which may include de-¬recognition of the school or withdrawal of NoC issued by the department,” the circular reads.

The circular reads that such practice is against the instructions already issued to the private schools regarding selling of books and uniforms from the campuses.

“It is once again enjoined upon all the private recognised schools that they should desist from compelling the parents for purchasing books and uniforms from any particular shop,” it reads.

Further all the chief education officers (CEOs) have been directed to constitute special monitoring teams to verify complaints received on account of sale of books and uniforms by the schools or any particular shop.

“Action taken in this regard shall be submitted to this directorate on weekly basis,” the circular reads.

DSEK G N Itoo said the department won’t allow any private school to “fleece” the parents of the students enrolled in their institutions.

“Parents should register their complaints with the CEO concerned or the directorate, and the department will take action against the erring private schools,” he said.
