SCPWCR takes suo-moto cognizance of death of twin neonates at LD Hospital

The J&K State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights (SCPWCR) Friday took suo-moto cognizance of the death of the twin neonates in LD hospital Srinagar and decided to constitute a committee to ascertain cause of the death.

The commission took cognizance of the case on the basis ofmedia reports about the alleged mishandling of cases at Lal Ded hospital.

   

Chairperson SCPWCR, Vasundhra Phatak Masoodi, while issuingan order into the alleged death of the babies, stated, “the commission has comeacross reports in section of media and Social Media about mishandling of casesat L.D Hospital in which twin new born babies lost their lives.”

“Abid Sofi, father of the babies alleged that the neonateslost their lives due to mishandling of cases in the hospital. He has alsowritten a letter to the Governor alleging that unfortunate incident took placedue to mishandling of medicos in the hospital. Taking suo-moto cognizance andconsidering the gravity of the matter, the commission has decided to constitutean enquiry committee to find the facts.”

On Thursday, a journalist wrote an open letter to GovernorSatya Pal Malik, alleging medical negligence at the Lal Ded hospital. Theincident has taken place on June 29.

Deputy Medical Superintendent, Lal Ded hospital said,”the matter is being probed by head Gynea and Obstetrics. She will submitthe report on Monday.”

To mention, in January this year a woman give birth on roadafter doctors in this premier maternity hospital denied her admission in thehospital leading to her roadside delivery and death of her baby. The incidentevoked outrage in the valley with political parties across party lines askingthe Governor to probe the incident.
