Search operation continues on 5th straight day in Bandipora forests

Government forces continued to search the woods in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on the fifth consecutive on Wednesday, even as unconfirmed reports said that a militant has been killed in the operation.

The operation was launched on Saturday after militants attacked an army patrolling party in Panner village on Saturday, leaving two soldiers wounded.

   

“After exchange of fire, army launched massive operation in the forest area on Saturday evening to track down the militants, believed to be 15 in number,” said a source.

He said that all the entry and exit points have been sealed to prevent the militants from escaping. 

Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia told Greater Kashmir that he is ascertaining the details on the killing of a militant in the operation. “I will let you know accordingly,” he said.
