Searches, frisking returns to Tral, Awantipora

Random searches and  frisking by government forces has returned to the hilly areas of Tral and Awantipora townships of Pulwama district causing inconvenience to the local people in the holy month of Ramdan.

Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu and Kashmir police and paramilitary forces on Saturday checked vehicles and frisked pedestrians at different places on Tral-Awantipora road.  The locals said that men in uniform conducted frisking of travelers, demanding identity cards and forcing the passengers to disembark from the vehicles which caused problems to locals especially patients visiting hospitals. “Commuters were forced to wait for hours together in queues after they were de-boarded from the vehicles,” said an eyewitness.

“They are stopping vehicles and frisking travelers near Nowdal CRPF camp,” said Abdul Ahad, a local resident. “What is the point of announcing ceasefire when people are made to suffer like this on the roads?”

Superintendent of police Awantipora, Mohammad Zahid Malik said, “The operation was done following inputs about grenade lobbing in the area.”
