Searches in Kulgam villages, several arrested in nocturnal raids

A search operation was launched in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district on Friday even as security forces have detained several people during the past few days.

A source said a joint team of army’s 1RR and specialoperation group of police laid siege around Muthalhama village of Qaimohfollowing inputs about the presence of militants in the area this afternoon.

   

“The area was sealed and door to door search operation wascarried,” he said.

The searches were on when this report was filed.

A similar search operation was carried in Batpora-Shuthvillage of Kulgam yesterday evening but was called off after nothing was found.

The security forces have intensified anti-militancyoperations in the district in the past few weeks.

Many people were injured in the clashes during the searchoperation in Tarigam village day before Eid.

The video and pictures which went viral on social mediashowed protesters damaging forces vehicles, and they, in turn, vandalizingcivilian property.

“The security forces have rounded up several youths from thearea during nocturnal raids charging them of disrupting the operations,” asource said.

Meanwhile, the wreath laying ceremony of Territorial Armyman Manzoor Ahmad Beg, who was shot dead by the militants at his home inSadoora village of Anantnag district was held at 19 RR Army camp in nearbyLarkipora-Dooru.

After the guard of honor by the army officials, he wasquietly laid to rest at his native village.

The slain TA soldier who was formerly part of acounterinsurgent militia, Ikhwan, was presently posted with army’s 34 RR inShopian and was home on leave for Eid.
