Sehrai concerned over condition of Kashmiri prisoners

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai expressed concern over ‘ill-treatment’ being meted out to the Kashmiri prisoners in jails in and outside Valley.

“The Kashmiri detainees are being punished for theirpolitical belief and legitimate political rights. It is unfortunate thatdespite frequent appeals none of rights organizations has visited jails inJ&K and across India where Kashmiri prisoners are lodged in dismal andpathetic conditions,” Sehrai, in a statement today, said.

He said, “The health condition of these prisoners hasdeteriorated owing to prolonged detention which is extremely inhumane andillegal.”

Sehrai urged the world bodies and internationalorganisations fighting for the prisoners’ justice to visit the jails in Jammuand Kashmir and also various prisons in India where Kashmiri prisoners arelodged.

He urged them to “build pressure” on the government torelease these prisoners who demand their legitimate right, the right toself-determination.

Meanwhile, Sehrai said, “Two more youths, Manzoor AhmedGanai of Nowpora, Pulwama, and Aijaz Ahmad Mir of Bhomai, have been slappedwith Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to outside Valley.”

“Manzoor has beenslapped with fifth PSA while Ajaz Ahmed who was a Imam at a Masjid was alsobooked under PSA. Kashmiris are being punished for holding the legitimatepolitical belief,” Sehrai said.
