Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai has condemned what he termed as the “fresh arrest spree” and detention of pro-freedom leaders and activists under Public Safety Act (PSA) in various jails in and outside the Valley.

In a statement here Sehrai said, “The Government has always responded to the renewed struggle with military aggression and mass detentions and under laws like AFSPA and PSA. The authorities have imprisoned hundreds of Kashmiri youth and leaders and activists before every election.”

Sehrai strongly denounced the arrest of TeH district president Bandipora, Danish Mushtaq, and Rayees Ahmad Mir, Parvez Ahmad Parray and his brother Umar Ahmed Parray Hajin, Abid Rashid Bhat , Tauseef Akbar Bhat, Abdul Ahad Teli of Handwara, Shakeel Khan of Hayaat pora, Sajjad Ahmad Beigh of Budgam and forces’ raid on  the residence of district president Baramulla Mufti Abdul Ahad.

“This oppression is a clear evidence of Jammu and Kashmir being a police state and the job of the  civil administration is to provide a legal cover for the acts committed by these forces,” Sehrai said, adding that, “Today hundreds of innocent youth including under-aged are being put behind bars under PSA.”

Meanwhile, Sehrai along with other leaders today visited the house of advocate Shabir Ahmad Bhat to express condolences with him on the demise of his grandmother.
