Sehrai, ML condemn alleged thrashing of detainees in Central Jail

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai  and Muslim League have expressed  serious concern over the alleged  ‘thrashing’ of detainees in Srinagar Central Jail.

“The way jail authorities are treating all these prisonersis complete violation of jail manual. The ghastly act has put the lives of allKashmiri political prisoners at risk,” Sehrai said in a statement.  

   

“The authorities should provide suitable treatment andfacilities to all the prisoners and ensure their security and safety. Thedetainees are subjected to political vengeance. Authorities even ignore theruling of Supreme Court (SC) regarding prisoners that they (prisoners should belodged in jails adjacent to their home cities,” he added.

 “We urge ICRC, AsiaWatch, Amnesty International and other human rights organisations to come tothe rescue of these detainees and impress upon the rulers to treat detainees as per charter laid by theinternational community,”  Sehrai  aid.

 He strongly condemnedslapping of PSA on Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, Rashid Ahmed Khan ,Ajaz Ahmad Khan,Ghulam Qadir Rather ,Abdullah Jaanwari of sopore and continuous detention ofKhursheed Ahmad Dar, Ajaz Ahmed Bahroo, Muhammad Sidiq Loorhama and TanveerAhmed.

Meanwhile, Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (ML) generalsecretary Muhammad  Rafiq Ganaie  in a syayment said,  “The plight of Kashmiri prisoners in jails isalready worse due to a biased attitude of jail authorities but resorting tolathi charge and using pellet guns in Srinagar Central Jail have made it clearthat the administration is openly violating the principles of human rights.”
