Separatists call for shutdown, protests today

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani termed the killing as “part of a conspiracy to quell the aspirations of Kashmiris.”

Separatist leaders Monday strongly condemned the killing of a youth Farooq Ahmad Bhat by government forces in Palhalan area of Pattan and urged people to observe complete shutdown and protests on Tuesday.

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani termed the killing as “part of a conspiracy to quell the aspirations of Kashmiris.”

“The trigger-happy police and security agencies have been targeting our youth to suppress the ongoing movement for right to self-determination. The killing of Farooq Ahmad is its glaring example. I strongly condemn the killing and urged people to observe complete shutdown and stage protests against it, on Tuesday,” he said.

The Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front led by Muhammad Yasin Malik have called for shutdown on Tuesday against Farooq’s killing.

“The killing of innocent youth has become a routine in Kashmir now as India has empowered its forces and cops with unbridled powers,” Mirwaiz said. “These killings are avoidable but in absence of any accountability, the trigger-happy forces kill our youth without any fear. I reject government probes into such killings as these have so far failed to bring the accused cops to book. I appeal the international

human rights organizations to take note of the Palhalan killing and impress upon India to stop shedding blood of innocents in Kashmir.”

Senior leader of Hurriyat Conference Jammu and Kashmir and Chairman of National Front while condemning the killing called for shutdown against it on Tuesday.

High Court Bar Association has also extended support to Geelani’s shutdown call. Chairperson of Dukhtaran- e- Millat Syeda Asiya Andrabi has condemned the killing and appealed people to stage protest against it on Tuesday.
