Separatists call for shutdown today

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and incarcerated Muhammad Yasin Malik, Thursday called for a complete shutdown on May 17, Friday, against civilian killings during the month of Ramadan.

The JRL called the strike call against the killing of ArshadAhmad Dar of Pattan, Rayees Ahmad Dar of Pulwama and Naeeem Ahmad Shah ofBhadarwah, during the ongoing holy month of Ramadan.

   

“We appeal people especially the youth to maintain peace anddiscipline while leading the protest march after Friday prayers in the nook andcorner of the state,” the JRL, in a statement today, said. 

Blaming the government of India for turning Jammu andKashmir into a “war field where people suffer from a deep sense of insecurity”,the JRL said, “Our life, honour and all belongings are at stake.”

The JRL appealed to all the Imams and Khateebs to apprisethe people about the ongoing human rights violations in Kashmir. 

“We express grave concern over the volatile situation whereas a routine matter people get killed, maimed, blinded by pellets and randomlyincarcerated on flimsy and baseless grounds,” the statement stated. “We appealto the UN Secretary General to take strong note of the gross violation of humanrights in Jammu and Kashmir and help resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordancewith the wishes and aspirations of the people.”
