Seven gamblers arrested in north Kashmir along with stake money: Police

Police on Monday claimed to have arrested seven gamblers along with stake money during two separate raids in north Kashmir.

A police spokesperson said that the police in Sopore pursuing a complaint of gambling raided a gambling site and arrested the gamblers. 

   

“Four persons were arrested following a credible input of gambling offences in Tarzoo area of Sopore,” he said.

He said the officers from the local police unit while making the arrests have also seized playing cards and stake money of Rs 48,000 from the gamblers.

In a separate raid in Hajin area of Bandipora district, he said, police arrested three persons following a credible input about gambling activities in the area.

“The persons arrested for gambling offences were identified as Tariq Ahmad Parray son of M Sikander Parray, Ajaz Ahmad Dar son of Ab Rashid Dar and Shabir Ahmad Parray son of M Amin Parray, all resident of Hajin,” he said. 

He said the officers from the local police unit while making the arrests have also seized playing cards and stake money of Rs 1230 from the gamblers.

He added that police has registered cases in both the gambling incidents under relevant sections.
