Shawwal moon not sighted, Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday

Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday as the Shawwal moon has not been sighted.

On Thursday evening, Pakistan’s central Ruet-i-Hilal Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman announced that Shawwal moon was not sighted and that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on Saturday.

   

Shawwal moon was also not sighted in any part of India.

“Not a single testimony of moon sighting was received from any part of the state, therefore, the 1st of Shawwal 1439 will be on Saturday, 16th June. Based on local moon sighting, Eid-ul-Fitr will be on Saturday 16th June 2018,” grand mufti Bashir-u-din told Greater Kashmir.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, marking the culmination of month-long Ramadhan.

Shawwal is the 10th month of the lunar Islamic calendar.
