Shocked by husband’s death, woman ends life in Uri

Shocked by her husband’s death, a woman ended her life by consuming some poisonous substance in this border town on Saturday, police said.

A police official identified the deceased as 50-year-old Kulsama Begum, a resident of Saidpora village of Uri town.

   

The official said Begum’s husband Awlad Ali Shah (52) was admitted to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla a few days ago after his health condition had deteriorated. He died of cardiac arrest this morning, the official said.

“The investigation revealed that the woman consumed some poisonous substance at her home as she was shocked to hear about the death of her husband,” said Station House Officer (SHO) Uri, Mohammad Ashraf. He said the woman was taken to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Uri where doctors declared her dead on arrival. “The body was later handed over to the family for last rites after completion of all medico-legal formalities,” the SHO said said.

Shah was an employee of J&K Gareem Bank and was posted at Pringal branch at Boniyar here. The official said a case under section 309 (attempt to suicide) of IPC has been registered at police station Uri.
