Shopian civilian killings: Jammu and Kashmir Police files murder case against army

Jammu and Kashmir Police has booked an army unit on murder and ‘attempt to murder’ charges over the shooting of two civilians in Shopian district of south Kashmir yesterday.

The charges of murder and ‘attempt to murder’ have been invoked against the army in an FIR registered at a police station in Shopian.

   

The FIR has been registered under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 336 (endangering life).

Army major Aditya of 10 Garwal and his unit has been named in the FIR, a copy of which lies with Greater Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir government has also ordered a magisterial probe into the killing of two youth – Javed Ahmad Bhat and Suhail Javed Lone – in army firing in Ganowpora yesterday.

Army has claimed that they opened fire in “self-defence” after a “mob tried to lynch an officer” during protests.
