Deputy Commissioner Shopian on Thursday suspended Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Shopian for “dereliction” of duty.
An official said a joint team of judiciary and districtadministration Shopian on directions of High Court visited many areas of thetown to take stock of various facilities there.
“During inspection many toilet blocks were found lockeddespite repeated instructions by the Deputy Commissioner to keep themfunctional during various review meetings,” said the official.
He said the Executive Officer was immediately placed undersuspension for not performing his duty efficiently and an enquiry was initiatedagainst him.
On Wednesday, Greater Kashmir had published a report aboutshortage and non-functioning of public toilets in the area. The report hadhighlighted problems faced by women owing to lack of separate toilets for themin the area.
