Shopian residents protest alleged thrashing of three persons by army

The residents of Ahgam village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday held a protest to protest against alleged thrashing of three locals by the army.

As per reports, residents of Ahgam blocked the Ahgam-Pulwama road as the word about the beating of three persons, Bilal Ahmad, Mohammad Shafi and Ab. Majeed, spread in the area.

“Army personnel of 44 RR from the nearby Ahgam camp surfaced in the area and without any provocation beat up some local residents who were tending to their orchards,” alleged a resident, who did not wish to be named.

The protesters were demanding action against the erring troopers.

When contacted, defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said: “Army personnel haven’t manhandled anyone. These are baseless allegations.”
