Shopian shuts on 2nd straight day

A shutdown was observed in southern Shopian district for the second straight day Sunday to mourn the killings of the militants in the area.

On Saturday morning two Jaish-e-Mohammad militants— Shahijahan Mir and Abid Hussain Wagay of Amshipora and Rawalpora villages respectively— were killed in a rather brief encounter with security forces in Gahind village of the district.

All the shops and business establishments remained closed while the traffic was sparse on the roads.

Meanwhile, mourners made a beeline to the native villages of the slain militants to express their sympathies with the bereaved families.
