The State Human Rights Commission Thursday took cognisance of a mysterious incident of throat-slitting of a man from southern Kashmir district of Anantnag who is battling for his life in a hospital here.
Chairman SHRC, Justice (Rtd) Bilal Nazki issued notices to deputy commissioner and senior superintendent of police for Anantnag, on a petition filed by rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, asking them to file a report “sooner the better”.
Feroz Ahmed Hajam, 35, was recently brought by the police to the district hospital in Anantnag with his throat slit.
A police statement later said, Hajam, who is a barber was a suspected operative of militant group Jaish-e-Mohamad and during questioning he went to take a nature’s call and tried committing suicide.
The statement however was ambiguous about where Hajam was brought for questioning and where he was found with his throat slit.
The petitioner, Untoo said Hajam’s throat was slit by unidentified gunmen and he was battling for life at the SMHS hospital in Srinagar.
The SHRC also directed the Medical Superintendent of the hospital to provide quality treatment to the grievously injured victim.
Hajam, the petition mentions is the son of Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Khretti village in Kokernag area of Anantnag district.
