Shutdown observed in poll areas

A complete strike was observed on Wednesday in the areas where the second phase of the ongoing urban local bodies (ULB) polls was conducted. The police said the situation was peaceful.

Greater Kashmir learnt that shutdown was observed in Solina , Aloochibagh, Sheikh Dawood Colony Batamaloo, Ziyarat Batamaloo, Shaheedgunj, Kara Nagar, Chattabal, Qamarwari, Bemina east and Bemina west, Nundreshi Colony, Parimpora, Zainakote, Lawaypora, Mujgund, Tankipora, Syed Ali Akbar, Basant Bagh, Fateh Kadal and Munawarabad areas of Srinagar.

   

Various parts of Anantnag district where polls were held also observed strike called by the Joint Resistance Leadership. 

Kashmir Range inspector general of police Swayam Prakash Pani said the second phase was peaceful as no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in Kashmir.

In a video message released by the police, director general of police Dilbagh Singh said the first two phases of civic polls passed off peacefully. 

“All security agencies cooperated to ensure peaceful polls. I am hopeful the remaining two phases will also pass off peacefully,” the DGP said.
