Slapping PSAs won’t force us into submission: Sehrai

Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH)  Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai has strongly condemned the arrest of several youth from Sopre area in Baramulla district and slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on them.

“We strongly condemn the slapping of PSA on Altaf Ahmed Mir, IrshadMagray, Umar NazirBhat of Zaloora ,Sopre, and Ashfaq Ahmad Malla, Waqas Ahmad Malla,Muhammad  Ashraf Dar of Sopore. It is sheer injustice and illustrates brazen display of invocation of draconian law.  Scores of youths, leaders and activists have been detained and shifted to different jails hundreds of miles away from their residences. This is travesty of justice and fundamental rights and deserves severe condemnation,” Sehrai said in a statement.

“Slapping PSAs on pro-freedom leaders and activists has always been a tool for the rulers to force them into submission. Such moves have been tested in the past and have failed to force the people of Kashmir to surrender before the Delhi’s military might and state government’s policies of coercion and repression,” Sehrai said.

He expressed displeasure over the silence maintained by ICRC and other international human rights organizations, saying that “Their negligence towards detainees is disheartening.”
