Over 22000 Erstwhile Beneficiaries In The City Denied Cash Assistance Since 2009, Highest Among All Districts

On the social welfare department’s pendency list, district Srinagar tops the chart of erstwhile beneficiaries that have been denied cash assistance by the department under various schemes since 2009.

Under the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), 22623 beneficiaries have been denied the financial assistance by the department in district Srinagar.

Similarly, in district Kupwara 17201 beneficiaries have not been paid the cash assistance of Rs 1000 per month. Anantnag is third on the pendency list with 11577 cases, Kulgam 10641 and district Budgam has 10455 beneficiaries that have not been paid money.

The department submitted the data after a complaint was filed by one Hajra Begum of Chadoora, Budgam in the State Human Rights Commission. The Commission took cognizance of the matter and served notices to directors social welfare Kashmir and Jammu to file list of all the pending applications.

District Bandipora has not paid cash assistance under ISSS to 8766 beneficiaries, Pulwama (8536), Baramulla (5198), Ganderbal (4678), Shopian (1265), Kargil (543) and Leh (304).

Under National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) which is a centrally sponsored scheme for the poor people falling below poverty line, a total of 55522 beneficiaries have been denied the benefits.

In district Budgam 11500 people have not been paid the cash assistance of Rs 1000 under this scheme. In district Anantnag 9786 people are in the pendency list. Similarly, in district Kupwara 8348, and in Baramulla 7567 beneficiaries are not getting any benefits from this scheme since 2009.

And in one more scheme called National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS), 2005 beneficiaries from Srinagar, 1185 from Baramulla and 881 from Budgam have been deprived of the benefits of this scheme.

The social welfare department has not paid cash assistance to over two lakh erstwhile beneficiaries in total for the past 10 years.

The departments that works for the vulnerable sections of the society and provides financial assistance through different schemes like pension for old-aged, widows, physically challenged and helps in the educational uplift of backward and economically weaker sections of the society, has not paid assistance to 260,831 beneficiaries.

In Jammu also the beneficiaries have been denied the benefits of the schemes of the social welfare department with Poonch, Rajouri and Jammu on top of the pendency list.
