Soldier killed in Pak firing in Kupwara

Guns roared on the Line of Control in Kupwara district on Saturday after a silence of over seven months. A soldier was killed while foiling an infiltration bid in Machil Sector in the district, an army official said.

He said that there were reports that an infiltration bid ofa group of militants is going to take place in the area. “The army unit postedthere always remains vigilant to foil any bid. When the army unit found themovement around 02:00 am they started to challenge the militants while tryingto cross the LoC. The Pakistan army fired upon Indian army posts to givesafeguard to infiltrators,” a top army official said.

   

“Our vigilant soldiers respond strongly but unfortunately welost a soldier identified as Lance Naik Rajender Singh of 57RR posted in MachilSector but we successfully foil the bid. This is a routine exercise of Pakistanarmy to violate the ceasefire and target Indian army posts to give safeguard tothe infiltrators but they failed to infiltrate with our strong response,” hesaid.

The official said that this was the first infiltration bidcum first ceasefire violation of this year in Machil Sector side which issuccessfully foiled. “This is the first attempt of infiltration which we foiledsuccessfully and it was also first ceasefire violation by Pakistan army in thearea, in future we will keep foiling the infiltration attempts without anyloss,” top army official said.

In December last year two JCOs were killed in Pakistaniforces’ firing along the LoC in Keran area of Kupwara.
