Soldiers fired several rounds of ammunition in air after a heated exchange of words between a group of army personnel and shopkeepers in Trehgam area of Kupwara district on Saturday.
Greater Kashmir learnt that a few soldiers asked former Trehgam market association president Muhammad Aslam Sheikh to move his car as an army convoy was about to pass by. However, while he was moving the car, a soldier allegedly hit with a cane.
“Aslam asked them why they were hitting the car when he was doing what they had told him. In the meantime local residents assembled there and they had a heated exchange of words with the soldiers.
Seeing more people coming and the scuffle intensifying the soldiers fired in air,” said an eyewitness. Kupwara deputy superintendent of police Yasir Ahmad said a police team rushed to the spot and pacified the two sides. “Everything was normal afterwards,” he said.
