Sole teacher takes care of a government-run primary school in Ganderbal

Parents of students enrolled in a government school in Ganderbal district that has just one teacher for five classes have threatened to lock it up if more teachers were not sent soon.

A sole teacher who also takes all the five classes up to 5thstandard by himself runs all the affairs of the primary school at Kaloo Mohallaof Gund tehsil falling under education zone Hariganiwan.

   

“How would our children be able to get quality educationwhen there is only one teacher to handle five classes all alone?” asked NissarAhmad, a parent.

“This is the height of insensitivity and indifference of theeducation department towards the poor students. The future of our children isbeing spoiled.”

Ghulam Nabi Kaloo, the Sarpanch of Gund (B) told GreaterKashmir the teacher is “overburdened and is unable to take care of all thestudents.”

The parents whose wards are admitted in the school protestedand threatened to lockdown the school if education department didn’t post onemore teacher or bring back the same teacher who was shifted out.

“I attend morning assembly and later teach all classes. Itis not possible to manage all classes alone,” said the sole teacher posted inschool.

“There were two teachers in this school. One of the femaleteachers is on maternity leave and other one was shifted on deployment toanother school,” he said.

Chief Education Officer of Ganderbal, Nahida Neelofer, toldGreater Kashmir that the department would send one more teacher to the school.
