Sole teacher takes care of a government-run primary school in Ganderbal

Parents of students enrolled in a government school in Ganderbal district that has just one teacher for five classes have threatened to lock it up if more teachers were not sent soon.

A sole teacher who also takes all the five classes up to 5th standard by himself runs all the affairs of the primary school at Kaloo Mohalla of Gund tehsil falling under education zone Hariganiwan.

“How would our children be able to get quality education when there is only one teacher to handle five classes all alone?” asked Nissar Ahmad, a parent.

“This is the height of insensitivity and indifference of the education department towards the poor students. The future of our children is being spoiled.”

Ghulam Nabi Kaloo, the Sarpanch of Gund (B) told Greater Kashmir the teacher is “overburdened and is unable to take care of all the students.”

The parents whose wards are admitted in the school protested and threatened to lockdown the school if education department didn’t post one more teacher or bring back the same teacher who was shifted out.

“I attend morning assembly and later teach all classes. It is not possible to manage all classes alone,” said the sole teacher posted in school.

“There were two teachers in this school. One of the female teachers is on maternity leave and other one was shifted on deployment to another school,” he said.

Chief Education Officer of Ganderbal, Nahida Neelofer, told Greater Kashmir that the department would send one more teacher to the school.
