Some vote for amenities, some for local candidates

Jameel Ahmad from Sever area of Wavoora in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district after casting his vote on Saturday said the successive governments ignored the development of their area.

“We are hopeful that the local candidate will change this,” he said.

Abdul Jabbar, an octogenarian, said that he had been voting since decades but the Lolab valley continued to lag in every aspect – healthcare, road connectivity and educational infrastructure.

A young voter said, “What did the authorities do to develop Lolab valley as a tourist destination to provide employment opportunities to the local, educated youth.”

However, Muhammad Afzal of Kanthpora said he had voted for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
