Sopore shuts for 2nd day to mourn death of local militant

Authorities suspended class work at the Government Degree College and some schools in Sopore on Saturday as the town and its outskirts shut for the second straight day to mourn death of a local militant.

Ishfaq Ahamd Sofi, a militant from the model town area ofSopore was killed during a brief encounter with security forces on Friday insouthern Kashmir’s Shopian district.

   

All shops and other business establishments remained shutwhile movement of vehicular traffic was thin.

On Friday, authorities ordered class work suspended in theGovernment Degree College and schools in Sopore as tension spread in the townand its outskirts on news of Sofi’s death.

“In view of prevailing situation and as a precautionarymeasure, Govt Degree College Sopore, higher secondary school for boys andhigher secondary school for girls in Sopore shall suspend their class work on11th of May 2019,” read an order issued by the additional district magistrateSopore on Friday evening.
