After putting in measures for containment of coronavirus infection here, the Srinagar administration has set in motion efforts to reach out to people including outsiders to provide them essentials.
In addition to food grains and LPG to people, the effortsalso include reaching out to people in need of other food items and medicinesand to migrant workers residing in the district.
During the last two days designated officials in all seventehsils distributed free food items to 2,500 migrant workers. The food packetsprovided to each worker included different items ranging from rice, wheat, tea,milk, salt and sugar.
As per Labour department there are around 6,000 migrantworkers in Srinagar. The remaining number of workers will be reached out to andprovided food items during the next two days.
The district administration is also reaching out to citizensin need and providing essential items as demanded. This is being done under aninitiative named ‘social security outreach’.
Under the initiative, over 300 families in need raisingrequests at dedicated helpline numbers were provided free food items andmedicines.
Of these families, 190 were provided food packets and over100 families were given free medicines as demanded. Other requests are underprocess and will be completed in due course.
The provision of free food items and medicines to those inneed is going on at the same time as PDS distribution of essential commoditiesincluding food grains and LPG.
Since the distribution was started Saturday, theadministration has covered some 23,000 households distributing 10,500 quintalsof rice and 630 quintals of wheat in six of 34 sub-zones of the district.
The distribution of food grains will move to other sixsub-zones Tuesday after completion in these sub-zones Monday.
With regard to distribution of LPG over 10,000 families havebeen covered and provided the cylinders during the last days. The entire 3.3lakh customer base of the district was targeted to be completed within one totwo weeks.
The residents were being provided all the items at theirdoorsteps in view of restrictions on public movement put in place in thedistrict in an effort to contain spread of coronavirus infection.
The administration has devised a comprehensive plan toensure each of over 2.6 lakh households gets its quota of food grains and LPGwithout having to move out of their homes.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Shahid IqbalChoudhary Sunday visited several places in the city to oversee distribution ofration and LPG supplies.
He also visited the new quarantine facilities which werebeing made available in the district for future use in case of need.
Shahid visited various areas to inspect adherence to strictrestrictions imposed as part of elaborate measures put in place in the districtto contain spread of the coronavirus.
